Using the Instant Label feature with CoStar-Dymo Label Printers

Audience: This bulletin will be of interest to customers who intend to use the instant mailing label feature in Skills Manager.

Skills Manager has a handy label feature that allows users to instantly print a single label for individual employees or agencies at the push of a button rather than hassling with a typewriter or word processing software.  This feature requires an optional CoStar or Dymo label printer.  (Dymo purchased CoStar in 1998). The printers can currently be purchased at http://www.dymo.com. 

Skills Manager prints the labels through the Dymo Label Software (DLS) that is bundled with all new Dymo printers. A current version of the software can also be downloaded for free from the Dymo web site. (Do not confuse Dymo Label Software with the Easy Suite or AddressMate software that shipped with older printers.) The appropriate Dymo Printer Driver and the Dymo Label Software must be installed and running for the Skills Manager instant label feature to work. Once the software is up and running, a label can be printed by pressing one of the Instant Label buttons located on the agency or employee forms in Skills Manager.

Important

  1. Skills Manager requires Dymo Label Software 4.11 (or higher) for Windows 95 / 98 / ME / NT 4 / 2000.
  2. The Dymo Label Software (DLS) can be downloaded for free at http://www.dymo.com
  3. The Dymo Printer Driver and DLS software must be installed and running for the Skills Manager instant label feature to work.
  4. It is recommended that the Dymo software be placed in the Windows Startup folder and configured to load to the system tray.
  5. Skills Manager communicates with the Dymo software via DDE commands that are transparent to the user.
  6. Skills Manager supports Dymo's address and shipping labels.
  7. Skills Manager prints one label at a time - batch printing is not supported.
  8. Skills Manager only supplies information to the "ADDRESS" portion of the label. A DLS Label may contain other information such as Return Address or Logo. Skills Manager does not alter these items; the user can configure these items data one time in the DLS and they will appear on every printed label.
  9. Skills Manager supports the following CoStar-Dymo printers -- LabelWriter EL40, EL60, Turbo and XL, XL Plus, XL Turbo.
